Why should I be a member of the Crieve Hall Neighborhood Association?
If you live in the boundary of Crieve Hall, the question should be
"why would I NOT want to be a member of CHNA and support the activities of the neighborhood where I live?"
Here are few reasons to join that we think would be important to any family.
You Have representation with CHNA.
In 2004, a small group of neighbors alerted the neighborhood to a Metro plan to build road connectors into our neighborhood. The neighborhood turned out with over 1000 at the meeting opposing that plan. What would have happened if nobody had taken action? Metro would have acted against the will of the people of our neighborhood. It was at that point we realized that we needed an organization to represent the views of our neighborhood. Since 2004, that plan to build road connectors has been proposed and defeated 3 more times. The Crieve Hall Neighborhood Association has represented the will of the people who live here.
In October of 2004 soon after we formed CHNA, neighbors became aware of plans by development companies interested in coming into our neighborhood to tear down single family homes to build multiplex housing. Neighbors were opposed to this. The Crieve Hall Neighborhood Association collected nearly 1000 petition signatures and helped to sponsor a bill to re-zone the entire neighborhood to single family homes only. The will of the people was granted in June of 2005 when Metro granted one of the largest re-zoning tracks ever in the history of Nashville.
Together we can do BIG things. There is power in being organized.
You have a better quality of life with CHNA.
From the very first neighborhood meeting in 2004, people realized that another benefit of being organized was the social aspect. The meetings and challenges got people talking and coming together. Some were seeing neighbors again that they had not seen or talked to in years. We started some committees and had our first neighborhood party bringing the neighborhood closer together. We started neighborhood clean-up day and the Easter Egg hunt and ladies brunches and the neighborhood yard sales – and recently had a Tour of Homes all part of bringing the neighborhood closer together in a better quality of life.
Recently the Social Committee re-named the CARE Committee dedicated itself to identifying and helping families with challenges. All these things means a better quality of life for those who live here. What is a better quality of life worth to you and your family?
You have a safer neighborhood with CHNA.
The Community Emergency Response Team is the first in Nashville and it is here in Crieve Hall. In the event of a large scale disaster, first responders may not be able to make it to our neighborhood, so we have volunteers who have been through training and are ready to help their neighbors. They continue to train monthly sponsored and supported by CHNA.
Burglaries saw a sudden increase in 2008 all over Nashville. CHNA organized three crime prevention meetings and began to re-energize the Neighborhood Watch program forming more Watch Groups. The result was a more alert, more aware and prepared neighborhood. An alert neighbor eventually helped in the capture of some of the felons responsible for breaking into homes in our neighborhood. More families continue to get involved helping to make our neighborhood a safer place.
You have a more informed neighborhood with CHNA
Our website and frequent neighborhood meetings help to keep our neighbors informed. The FORUM on our website allows our neighbors to express themselves and inform each other.
The FORUM has been a part of everything from getting a lost dog back to its owners or finding a good roofer to helping to capture burglars.
All of these activities cost money. Regardless of whether its the website or printing flyers for a neighborhood crime prevention meeting or providing inflatables for our neighborhood party, it all costs money. There are many other things that we do beside the things that are mentioned here and lots of things that we want to do. This all has been made possible with a lot of volunteer effort and the willingness of our neighbors to join us because they see the value in what we are doing. Thanks to everyone who is a member. Now imagine our neighborhood without any of the benefits mentioned. Don’t you think it’s worth the small membership fee? Together we can do a lot. Together we can have meaningful representation. Together we can have a better quality of life. Together we can have a safer place for our family to grow and prosper. Together we can be informed and be aware. Together we can continue to enjoy the benefits of living in this great neighborhood. Please join us.
